Handling Sensitivity series

Harness and Collar Sensitivity

Equipment can feel threatening when it moves over the head, tightens unexpectedly, or predicts an overwhelming outing.

Harness and Collar Sensitivity

Separate the pieces

First reinforce looking at and approaching the equipment. Next practise nose movement near a wide opening without fastening it.

Check physical fit

Rubbing, restricted shoulder movement, pressure behind the legs, or difficult buckles can create real discomfort.

Change the prediction

Short calm sessions that end before fastening can rebuild comfort. Do not make every equipment appearance lead to a busy walk.

What to avoid

Keep the response gentle.

Avoid pushing the dog’s head through while holding the body still.

Safety boundary

When to get more help.

Sudden equipment sensitivity, pain, skin irritation, or snapping needs veterinary and behavior assessment.
