Movement starts the chase
Trouser legs, slippers, robes, and children running often trigger predatory-style play. Pulling away quickly can make the target even more exciting.
Change the setup before the bite
Keep a long soft toy near predictable hotspots, use gates during busy transitions, and pause movement when the puppy targets clothing.
Practise calm movement separately
Reward the puppy for watching one slow step, then two. Short successful repetitions are more useful than waiting for a full chase to begin.
What to avoid
Keep the response gentle.
Do not turn clothing biting into tug by pulling fabric back and forth.
Safety boundary
When to get more help.
Hard bites, inability to disengage, or risk to children require individualized management support.
